Gilpin Lodge is one of my favourite places to escape to. The service is always great and the staff are very friendly. Food is delicious and always presented very well. I always look forward to Gilpin, whether it be lunch or a weekend away. Barney and his team have created something very special.

The Cunliffe family turned Gilpin into a hotel back in 1988, where it started off with only 5 bedrooms. The family has a true passion for luxury, making it what it is today. It is a highly regarded country house hotel with award winning food and a very extensive wine list.
Proudly holding 4 AA Rosettes and a Michelin-star, their award-winning restaurant SOURCE at Gilpin Hotel has always been an exquisite venue to dine in, using local produce and fine ingredients, with their sommelier working hand in hand with their head chef, by matching fine wines to perfectly complement each dish.
At the hotel there have been various stages of expansion and extensions over the years, adding new bedrooms, garden room and new bar area. The contemporary Spa, Junior and Garden Suites all featuring a bubbling hot tub, nestled within the privacy of their very own patio area.
The grounds include a croquet lawn, which was originally a lawn tennis court. There are wonderful candlelit paths leading to different areas with plenty of surprises in store, and a pretty terrace where you can sit, relax and enjoy a glass of your favourite tipple. Proudly holding 3 AA Rosettes since 1977, fine dining at Gilpin Hotel is an exceptional experience. Creative menus showcase the best local produce sourced from the West Coast and the Lake District. Each dish is paired with an exquisite wine from the hotel’s substantial collection of over 200 from 13 different countries.
There are three dining rooms at Gilpin and each one has its own distinctive atmosphere. Afternoon tea is an indulgence not to be missed, serving up mouth-watering sweet treats and sandwiches.
Guests can enjoy pre or after dinner drinks in the hotel bar and relax in the laid-back environment or sit out on the terrace and soak up the scenery.
Guests are welcome to book one of the fabulous treatments either at the Lake House Jetty Spa or in the comfort of their Junior or Garden Suite. The hotel also provides complimentary passes that allow access to the swimming pool and gym at the Old England Spa in Windermere.
The Lounge is a cosy and elegant space with comfy armchairs and sofas, where you can lose yourself in a good book or magazine. Gilpin Hotel Rooms
Each of these uniquely decorated bedrooms boast lovely views across the gardens, courtyard and moors.
Crook – Attention to detail is exquisitely demonstrated throughout this lovely bedroom with quirky, colourful decor from the wallpaper to the lamps.
Crosthwaite – Elegant furnishings decorate this space with crisp white sheets, a royally presented dressing table and illuminated spaces.
Rydal – A more sophisticated feel is exhibited within the design of this room with a lovely writing desk beside the single glass doorway into the delightful courtyard, perfect for a mid-afternoon exploration.
Situated in the wing which was added to the main building in 1997, these suites are peaceful and each has its own access onto the gardens and private patio area. Bathrooms are one of the best features, with walk in shower, luxury toiletries and spa bath. Enjoy the exciting, recent edition of the brand-new hot tubs, situated in your very own private garden patio area.
Troutbeck -With triple aspects, this suite boasts immense views of the gardens, ponds and waterfalls, woodland, croquet lawn and llama paddock. The room is draped in a mixture of woollen and chenille fabrics.
Grasmere – This is the perfect place for watching the sunrise and sinking into total relaxation. A mixture of fabrics, aubergine and taupe tones and Textura wallpaper immerse guests in pure decadence.
Patterdale – Patio doors let the light flood into this light room where cream shades are highlighted with splashes of orange.
Thirlmere – The Victorian wrought iron four poster bed is the centrepiece of this split level suite. Patio doors overlook the llama paddock and croquet lawn, where guests can watch the beautiful sunsets.
Buttermere – Also on a split level, Buttermere enjoys the same views as Thirlmere. An earthy palette gives the suite a stylish and tranquil ambience.
Kentmere – Not only providing the ultimate in elegance and sophistication, Kentmere offers views of the llama paddock and woodland. Aztec prints and vinyl wallpaper enhance the linen colour scheme.
Most of these rooms can be found on the first floor in the original part of the hotel, retaining striking Georgian features. Facilities include flat screen television, luxury toiletries, mini bar and hospitality tray with home made biscuits.
Lyth – Uninterrupted views of the countryside and ancient gardens make this a really special room. Rich tones mingle with designer wallpaper and fabrics, bringing you the utmost in luxury.
Winster – Guests can gaze out at pretty, south facing views of the gardens and moorland, giving Winster a calming atmosphere. An adorable fusion of textures, earthy hues and sumptuous bed linens add sophistication to the room.
Gleabarrow – The original fireplace and bay windows with banquet seating add real charm to Gleabarrow, with its fabulous vistas of mountains and woodland. Soft tones of cream gold and brown complement the hand made furniture and Zoffany fabrics.
Wetherlam – This characterful retreat is tucked away in the eaves and affords extensive views in all directions. There is a real country chic feel to Wetherlam and the freestanding bath is a welcome addition for any luxury hotel.
Heathwaite – Classical French style furniture is combined with natural colours and wonderful views of the garden, terrace and ponds, perfect for unwinding in comfort.

Cat Bells – Lying beneath the leafy canopy of the giant oak tree, Cat Bells is enveloped by lush meadowland. Knowles and Christou wallpaper, rich silks and fabrics reminiscent of the Far East come together in a perfect marriage.
Crinkle Crags – Maximising the sunlight and phenomenal views, this suite is both luxurious and tranquil. A fascinating contrast of opulent furnishings, warm golds and accent wallpaper create a unique and sumptuous character.
Dollywagon Pike – The south facing decking means that guests can make the most of the sunshine and fabulous views from the hot tub. The orchid wallpaper creates a beautiful feature wall and blends perfectly with the panelled bed head.
Haystacks – Sultry and seriously stylish, Haystacks has a really distinctive flavour of the Amazon with its leaf print wallpaper and tree trunk coffee table.
St Sunday Crag – Designer furnishings and furniture from Julian Chichester, Cole and Son and Dedar fill this suite with style and decadence. South west facing windows frame views of the ponds and waterfalls, croquet lawn and llama paddock.
Sergeant Man – Nestled into the far side if the house, this suite is a private hideaway perfect for romance. Woodland views inspire the natural colour scheme while the silver dressing table and Julian Chichester bed side tables introduce a touch of glamour.
