Gilpin Hotel & Lake House

The Cunliffe family turned Gilpin into a hotel back in 1988, where it started off with only 5 bedrooms. The family has a true passion for luxury, making it what it is today. It is a highly regarded country house hotel with award winning food and a very extensive wine list.

Gilpin has two very different restaurants, SOURCE at Gilpin Hotel and Gilpin Spice.  These are led by two very different high-profile chefs who work together, sharing the same vision, commitment, passion and values, built on sustainable sourcing with low to no food miles and supporting local producers.

At the hotel there have been various stages of expansion and extensions over the years, adding new bedrooms, garden room and new bar area.  The contemporary Spa, Junior and Garden Suites all featuring a bubbling hot tub, nestled within the privacy of their very own patio area.

The grounds include a croquet lawn, which was originally a lawn tennis court. There are wonderful paths leading to different areas with plenty of surprises in store, and a pretty terrace where you can sit, relax and enjoy a glass of your favourite tipple. Features include ponds, waterfalls and beautiful plants and trees.

The stunning Gilpin Spa Suites are the latest addition to Gilpin Hotel and are among the best places to stay in the Lake District, with a private hot tub, steam room, sauna, infrared lounge bed and a state-of-the-art automated massage chair.

Just a mile away, Gilpin Lake House is quite literally a sanctuary. Each of the luxury suites enjoy exclusive access to 100 acres of private grounds, including a stunningly beautiful four-acre private lake, swimming pool and the fabulous Jetty Spa, Summer Room, kitchen gardens, boat house, Druid’s Circle, mature woodland, moorland, grassland and wild ponds.

Dining

Proudly holding 3 AA Rosettes since 1977, fine dining at Gilpin Hotel is an exceptional experience. Creative menus from 1 Michelin Star SOURCE at Gilpin Hotel showcases the best local produce sourced from the West Coast and the Lake District. Each dish is paired with an exquisite wine from the hotel’s substantial collection of over 200 from 13 different countries.

There are three dining rooms at Gilpin and each one has its own distinctive atmosphere. Afternoon tea is an indulgence not to be missed, serving up mouth-watering sweet treats and sandwiches.

Their casual restaurant with two AA Rosettes… the laid-back Gilpin Spice has an open kitchen serving pan-Asian dishes inspired by countries along the spice trail – spanning the Philippines, the Indian sub-continent, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and China.

Guests can enjoy pre or after dinner drinks in the hotel bar and relax in the laid-back environment or sit out on the terrace and soak up the scenery.

Spa Facilities

Guests are welcome to book one of the fabulous treatments in the Spa Space at Gilpin Hotel.   The Gilpin team created a calming and tranquil flow through the whole Spa Space, creating a sensory journey with naturally scented and textured wall coverings. The scents of the oils and the warm, rich woods welcome you into the apothecary-inspired reception, with hints of the spice trail in the restaurant below. Outside two hot tubs nestled in Garden Arwen, created with the roots and stumps which fell during Storm Arwen.

The Lounge is a cosy and elegant space with comfy armchairs and sofas, where you can lose yourself in a good book or magazine. Alternatively, take a walk around the beautifully maintained gardens, which feature century old plants and trees. You will also stumble across a llama paddock and croquet lawn.
