Seaham Hall is a 17th century building and has been transformed from a historic icon into a contemporary hotel, featuring 24 luxurious suites & 5 coastal lodges and two bungalow suites, delicious dining and a simply perfect award-winning spa.

Seaham Hall began life as a medieval manor house, and the original structure can still be seen today.  In 1791, it was rebuilt and went on to be the home of the poet Lord Byron, who was married here.  It then enjoyed a rich history during the present century when it became a military hospital during World War I, played a key role in US Prohibition, a TB Sanatorium and latterly a medical centre.

This beautiful building now perfectly combines Georgian charm with modern flair and vast quantities of chic style. Seaham Hall’s motto ‘luxury liberated‘ is embodied in every inch of the hotel, from the contemporary design to the supreme comfort of all the facilities.

Dining at Seaham Hall is a notable experience with the rugged views of the North Sea teamed with the relaxed, friendly and somewhat quirky atmosphere. Chef Damian Broom of The Dining Room restaurant sources the finest ingredients right from his own doorstep to present a varied and tasty tapas style menu from the beloved local region. Alternatively, ‘Geko Restaurant’ is a haven for lovers of contemporary Eastern cuisine, offering a vibrant dining experience and serving authentic Pan-Asian cuisine in a relaxed and informal setting.

Serenity Spa at Seaham Hall is alluring and totally irresistible.  There are quirky snail showers, a 20-metre pool with massage stations, sanarium, an ice fountain, a hammam and hydrotherapy pool – just to name a few.  For ultimate relaxation, spend time in the Zen Garden with a hydrotherapy infinity pool with cocoon pods. All of this is set in contemporary elegance and chic style, and is the perfect tranquil retreat.   There is a state-of-the-art fitness suite, and an aerobics studio, as well as 17 individual treatment rooms offering a euphoric selection of holistic and wellbeing treatments.  The rooftop garden is the ideal place to relax after much needed pampering.

New in 2023, enjoy a blissful break in the Serenity Spa’s Rooftop Bar – the perfect spot to enjoy a refreshing drink or a glass of bubbly during your rejuvenating spa day.

The name “Geko” is inspired by the Japanese word for moonlight and reflects the calm, contemporary atmosphere where bold flavours and mindful dining take centre stage. With a menu crafted around vibrant small and large plates, from crisp karaage and kushiyaki to rich ramen and donburi, each dish celebrates balanced flavours and quality ingredients, ideal for sharing and discovery. Whether you’re unwinding after a spa treatment or gathering for a relaxed lunch or dinner, Geko’s stylish setting and inventive menu offer something delicious and memorable against the backdrop of the Durham Heritage Coast.

Harvey’s Bar

Where Every Sip Tells a Story
The tale begins in 1815, when Lord Byron married Annabella Milbanke at Seaham Hall and gifted King George III a cask of SPEY Whisky — a gesture that forever tied the Hall to one of Scotland’s most iconic malts.

Fast forward to the 1920s, and local character Alex Harvey revived that spirit once more, turning Seaham’s hidden cellars into a discreet whisky route during Prohibition, with rumours that even Al Capone was among his customers.

Today, Harvey’s Bar captures the essence of both eras — the romance of Byron’s time and the allure of speakeasy glamour. Rich textures, soft amber light and refined comfort set the tone. Whether you’re sipping or dining, raise a glass to Seaham Hall’s remarkable past and its enduring taste for timeless indulgence.

My partner and I came here for a festive break last year and had the most wonderful time.

Suzanna Mavity

We spent 4 nights in a lovely room with a hot tub and could have easily stayed for longer.  The hotel is to a high standard and the views and grounds are beautiful.  A short walk to the beach and then back for a cocktail on the patio, whilst planning your next trip to the spa is just what we needed!
