Holbeck Ghyll’s impressive trio of award nominations

If you haven’t already visited Holbeck Ghyll in the Lake District, it must go on this year’s To Do List for three very good reasons.

This rather splendid luxury hotel has been nominated for THREE categories in the Cumbria Life Food & Drink Awards 2013:

  • Outstanding Service Award
  • The Judges’ Award for Restaurant of the Year
  • Young Chef of the Year for Holbeck’s rising star, James Maggiore

No stranger to awards, Holbeck Ghyll already boasts an impressive selection of accolades, including a Michelin Star, four AA Red Stars, three AA Rosettes for Food and AA Notable Wine List Award 2011 – 2012, just to name a few.

The Holbeck Ghyll Restaurant has proudly held a Michelin star for 12 years. The menu comprises local ingredients served with innovative style, an impressive wine cellar to complement the fine cuisine, and views of Lake Windermere from the exquisite oak panelled dining room which add to the fabulous dining experience.

Various options for dining are on offer, ensuring that all guests and visitors can enjoy some of the finest dining in the North. In addition to the traditional dinner menu, there is a seven course Gourmet Menu and a set Market Menu during the winter months. Hotel residents can take advantage of the Diner’s Delight package, which includes Afternoon Tea, cocktail and canapes preceding a four course meal, followed by cognac, coffee and petit fours and rounded up with a full Cumbrian breakfast the following morning.

Holbeck Ghyll’s award winning wine list also warrants exploration. The experienced team are led by Chief Sommerlier, Stefan Lydka, who has searched far and wide to compile a selection of almost 300 wines, scouring vineyards both small and large in his quest. Many of the old favourites are to be found on the list, but emerging wine regions are also celebrated from places such as Slovenia, USA and Georgia.

Having enjoyed both the delightful food and a little nosy around the wine selection (!), we at CrispWhiteSheets can vouch for this luxury hotel’s worthiness in receiving these significant nominations. The results of the awards will be announced on January 25th and in the meantime, we can only keep our fingers and toes crossed for the lovely team at Holbeck Ghyll.

” I heard about this place from a friend who raved about it, so I thought I would treat the missus to a weekend away. The food was excellent, the staff were polite and the room – well the wife loved it. A decent place to go for a romantic couple of days away.”
