Hambleton Bakery in ITV1’s ‘Britain’s Best Bakery’
The renowned Hambleton Bakery, in Rutland, Leicestershire, has been selected to take part in ‘Britain’s Best Bakery’, ITV1’s prestigious new food competition.
And with over 2 million viewers tuning each day, the pressure is on……..
Julian Carter and Scott Kenny from Hambleton Bakery are representing the Rutland and the Midlands, showcasing the skills that they have honed over years practising the art of traditional baking.
Britain’s Best Bakery is not the average culinary competition. The focus is on exploring baking’s past heritage and delving into the fascinating origins of local specialities across the country. With industrial bread production resulting in bread lacking in nutrients and the addition of additives, Hambleton Bakery reverts to the traditional sour dough system which yields a nutritious and flavoursome bread. And the combined knowledge of born and bred bakers Julian and Scott means that the Hambleton Bakery can pack a good punch in this tough competition.
The competitors are all independent, community or family run bakers, and will be subjected to rigorous challenges perfecting delicacies such as baklava and organic artisan sour dough bread. Watched by the eagle eyes of judges Mich Turner MBS, owner of Little Venice Cake Company, author and TV chef, and Peter Sidwell, restauranteur, cookery writer and TV chef, only the best will be safe!!
Originally set up to provide for guests at Hambleton Hall itself in 2008, the bakery has gone from strength to strength. Hambleton Bakery is now successful in its own right as a supplier to wholesale customers, such as restaurants, pubs and delis, and also runs bakery shops in surrounding areas.
Inspired by taking part in the Britain’s Best Bakery, Julian and Scott have launched two appetising new products, The Ploughman’s Parcel and The Rutland Pippin. A Focaccia dough containing vintage Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese, apple, celery and homemade chutney, topped with seeds, The Ploughman’s Parcel would have been a traditional meal for men working in the fields in olden times and is already a hit with customers! The Rutland Pippin is an attractive alternative to the sausage roll or scotch egg. Think a mix of Grasmere hand pulled ham hock, Colston Bassett Stilton, apple puree and sausage meat wrapped in an apple shaped crusty bread exterior......
With such tantalising delicacies in the making, our money is on the Hambleton Bakery as winner of ‘Britain’s Best Bakery’.
Starting November 26th, Monday to Friday 4pm to 5pm, concluding on December 21st on ITV1.
