20th & 22nd June 2014
Celebrating Fowey’s amazing local seafood produce, the Mussel Fest is taking place again this year since the incredible success of its launch in 2012. Combining cooking demonstrations and competitions, plays, treasure hunts, and, of course, seafood, the festival has something to please everyone.
The chefs showcasing their skills are from well known local eateries, including The Bistro, Fowey Hall, The Cormorant Hotel, and the Lugger, to name a few. Demonstrations will take place throughout the day, with plenty of entertainment for all the family in between each session. Plays, story telling and sword fighting will be presented by The Pirates, a nod to Fowey’s rich history involving pirate ongoings. Jazz music, Ceilidh music and dancing and poetry are also part of the day’s entertainment.
Taking place in both the town’s quay and the Fowey Hotel, the festival offers excellent opportunities to feast upon the River Fowey’s delicacies. Hot shellfish, live mussels, champagne and oysters, mussel soup with fresh bread, paella – even strawberries and cream!! Trips to the Mussel Processing Plant will be available for anyone seeking to learn more about the celebrated shellfish.
The Fowey Mussel Fest is the perfect excuse to visit this wonderful harbourside town. CrispWhiteSheets can recommend some wonderful places to stay to make the most of the break, allowing for more mussel consumption!
