Top international polo players will take part in exhibition matches in what is sure to be the highlight of the summer calendar, and Polo on the Beach at Watergate Bay in 2016 is even more special as it celebrates its 10th anniversary.
The aim of the event is to introduce the game of beach polo to new audiences, as well as providing a thrilling weekend for those already converted. The rules of beach polo are by and large similar to grass polo, with any differences being due to the smaller size of ground.
Watergate Bay in Newquay has been home to Polo on the Beach for several years and has been growing in popularity. Sponsors such as Veuve Clicquot, Joules, HSBC and Mercedes Benz continue to provide their support, and the event continues to evolve.
Watergate Bay is home to the Extreme Academy, which offers fun activities such as surfing, kitesurfing, wave ski and stand paddle surfing. Watch this space to find out how kites and the Extreme Academy join in a horse race like no other! To round off the day, there will be a beach BBQ and bar, plus live music.
Likewise, another quirky equine feature will be providing entertainment, then the main event will take place. Two free exhibition matches will be held, with teams consisted of top internationals competing for the coveted trophies, sponsored by HSBC and Mercedes Benz.
Polo on the Beach is a free, fun event that is suitable for all the family. Spectators are welcome to bring chairs and make themselves comfy! The Veuve Cliquot champagne bar and the Beach Hut BBQ will be open for the purchase of food and drink. All in all, a perfectly great weekend!
