The Chester Vase has been producing future winners since 1907. As only 3 year old colts and geldings can take part, this race is a crucial test of stamina as the Derby or the St Leger at Doncaster loom on the horizon.

Many famous horses have passed through this rite of passage, but none so famous as Shergar.  In 1981, he dazzled Chester’s racegoers with his 12-length victory and his subsequent 10-length victory at the Derby remains the largest post-war winning margin.

Chester Racecourse is steeped in history. The Roodee, (the piece of land on which the racecourse is situated) has been traced back to at least the Roman times, and archaeologists sponsored by the Race Company are still unearthing fascinating discoveries.

The first recorded horse race on the Roodee took place on February 9 1539, and was deliberately introduced to replace the violent game of football…and so the tradition of horse racing began!

Echo Falls Ladies Day at Chester Races is a fab excuse to dress up! The dress code is suit jacket, collar and tie for the gents and smart dress for the ladies. Although hats are by no means compulsory, more and more women wear them each year.

For private hospitality, the recently refurbished Paddock Rooms cater for 24 to 30 people and offer private dining overlooking the Parade Ring, with a private patio for luxurious relaxation. Private boxes in both the County Stand and Leverhulme Stand grant wonderful views of the final furlong, winning post and the Paddock, with tailored facilities and packages available.  Festival chalets offer a close up of all the action with exclusive privacy. Catering for 30+ people, the chalets are situated close to the track at the final furlong, and within walking distance of the jazz band too!!

An excellent selection of restaurants help ensure that a day at the races is a memorable experience. The Final Furlong Restaurant offers all inclusive facilities in the tented village area and all County Stand and Tattersalls ticket holders can enjoy The Finishing Post Bar in the Paddock on a walk in basis. Other options include the Turf Restaurant and The Horse & Jockey. Not to be missed at Echo Falls Ladies Day at Chester Races is the 1539 Restaurant, which is positioned perfectly above the lively Tattersalls Stand for panoramic views of the races.
